Our Story
In 2009, Will and Michelle met for the first time. Michelle was just returning home from Duke University after graduation, completing four years of NCAA Division I track and field and sitting for her MCAT exam. Will had just returned home after graduating from Syracuse University College of Law, taking the New York State Bar Exam, and was starting his new position as an Assistant District Attorney for the Suffolk County District Attorney’s Office. Little did they know that they would be returning home to one another.
As luck would have it, Michelle’s closest friend from high school happens to be Will’s cousin, Samantha. During the month of August, with some help from Sam, Will and Michelle had the opportunity to spend time with one another. Their relationship soon turned from social acquaintance to something more. Then in September, with some coaching from Sam, as well as Will’s Aunt Krissy, Will and Michelle were sitting down to their first date at Danford's in Port Jefferson. From that moment, it was clear that the two were a perfect match.
During the next year, Will and Michelle’s relationship continued to grow. Later that year, Michelle was accepted to the Loyola University Stritch School of Medicine! … in Chicago. Beaming with pride, Will said a bittersweet goodbye to Michelle in July of 2010. The two made a promise to one another that they would make every effort possible, despite the distance, to make their relationship work.
Two and a half years later, after many flights on Southwest Airlines, and countless phone calls, Will and Michelle’s love for one another not only endured, but was even stronger than the day she left. Despite going as much as two months without seeing each other at times, their relationship had not wavered. And on November 17th of 2012, unbeknownst to Michelle, Will flew out to Chicago. With some help from Michelle’s college roommate and Duke teammate, Anna, Michelle was lured into downtown Chicago under the guise of a “girl’s afternoon of shopping.” As she crossed the Michigan Avenue Bridge, however, something caught her eye; it was Will, standing alone on the bridge, with a single red rose. Before Michelle knew exactly what was happening, Will was on bended knee, asking her to marry him.
The rest, as they say, is history. Michelle eagerly said yes, much to Will’s delight. The two were able to spend the holiday season celebrating their engagement together with friends and family, and most importantly one another. Michelle has just about one year left in the Windy City and the two cannot wait to finally be in the same state! Will and Michelle feel so lucky to have found one another and could not be happier to start this next exciting chapter of their lives together as husband and wife.
